Hot work is any process that generates flames, sparks or heat

This includes activities such as grinding, welding and heating" target="_blank">heating with a blow torch. These activities require a permit to work. This is essentially a process to ensure these types of actvities don't result in injuries, fires or explosions.

We must all play our part to identify any situation that with the introduction of hot work could create hazardous conditions such as fire, fumes, radiation or electrie shock.

It’s extremely important that workers become familiar with and use the appropriate controls including personal protective equipment. But each must be matghed to the hazards assodiated with the specific task and materials used.

Hazard mitigation includes suitable fire extinguishing equipment and should be maintained in a state of readiness for instant use. A fire watch will be there during the hot work to protect the area. The fire watch will operate the fire extinguisher and ensure that combustible material is more than 35 feet away at all times.
